Peter J. Barrett, Jr.

Peter J. Barrett, Jr. has more than ten years of experience providing litigation advice and counsel to businesses and insurers. 

On behalf of clients in the insurance industry, Mr. Barrett has significant experience in all aspects of first- and third-party coverage disputes and related litigation.  In particular, Mr. Barrett has extensive experience providing claims and litigation counsel in connection with catastrophic property damage losses and related business interruption claims.

Mr. Barrett also has substantial experience providing counsel to third-party insurers nationally in a number of different claims scenarios, including environmental and toxic tort coverage disputes and other general liability coverage issues.

In addition, Mr. Barrett represents insurers in the defense of bad faith claims arising in both the property and liability insurance contexts.

Mr. Barrett also has significant experience in general commercial litigation, including contract disputes, securities fraud claims, and intellectual property.

Mr. Barrett is a graduate of Bowdoin College and the Northeastern University School of Law.  While at Northeastern, Mr. Barrett interned with the Hon. Shane Devine, United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire, and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

He is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.  He also has extensive experience appearing pro hac vice before the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He is a member of the Property Insurance Law Committee of the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association, and the Insurance Committee of the Defense Research Institute.
